GLEN COVE, NY - December 1, 2011. New York State Senator Carl L. Marcellino visited the North Shore Historical Museum’s future home, the Glen Cove Justices Court Building.
At the invitation of the Museum’s President, Brian Mercadante, the Senator was invited to see the progress made on the restoration of the 1907 structure. Along with Mercadante, a number of the Museum’s trustees and Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi, who was also invited, the Senator was taken on a tour of the exterior and interior of the historic structure.
Mr. Mercadante pointed out that the restoration of exterior of the building is virtually completed except for pieces of the building façade. The Museum does have pieces of the original façade stored in the building’s basement. He told the group that major restoration of the interior of the building has been accomplished with the demolition phase completed and new staircases added to the three story building, a unisex bathroom has been added on the main floor and carpenters are installing paneling to match the original in the Courtroom area.
The Senator expressed his surprise on the progress being made and his delight at the building being brought up to modern standards for electrical service, plumbing and heating and ventilation. “It is especially interesting to see these modern standards along with the restoration of interior walls, ceiling and flooring being constructed to reflect the original premises as it appeared in the early 20th century”.
Mr. Mercadante thanked the Senator and the Mayor for their interest and support and their help. “With your continued support and the continued help and support of the public we can get the doors open to this extraordinary building”, he said.
The North Shore Historical Museum has been chartered by the New York State Department of Education to collect and exhibit artifacts and archives of Long Island’s North Shore. For membership or further information call 516-759-6970 or visit our website at northshorehistoricalmuseum.org.
