Downton Abbey
Meets Locust Valley

at the North Shore Historical Museum

The newly opened North Shore Historical Museum on Glen Street in Glen Cove was recently host to Amy Driscoll who gave a slide presentation titled Downton Abbey Meets Locust Valley. The old courthouse overflowed with guests, and it was standing room only for this popular presentation.

Discoll compared the lifestyles of Downton Abbey’s ficticious Lord and Lady Grantham and their servants; albeit based on the real English aristocracy, to the wealthy estate owners and their staff in the era of the Gold Coast in Locust Valley, Glen Cove and beyond.

English teapots were displayed in the showcase on loan from NSHM vice president, British born, Victoria Crosby.

Several board members wore traditional costume in keeping with the event, historian Monica Randall, videographer Barry Rivadue and Eve Califano, who displayed a copy of the deed of her home which is the original Latting House for which Lattingtown was named.

Following the presentation a delightful traditional English tea with scones, lemon curd, berry preserves and clotted cream was served along with Scottish shortbread.

This event was organized by Linda Darby, a board member of the North Shore Historical Museum.

An exhibit of glamorous gowns and accessories from Monica Randall’s Gatsby era collection will be featured at the museum from May until Labor Day with a preview reception on Friday May 3rd.
